Spring Forward To A Healthier You

 March 2024 Newsletter

Spring forward with a fresh start! As we adjust our clocks, consider embracing the rejuvenation of spring with acupuncture. This practice can help realign your body’s energy, reduce stress, and enhance overall wellness, perfectly complementing the season’s renewal. Even when you think the body is in harmony, it’s beneficial to do a seasonal tune-up to keep it flourishing. It’s always a good reminder as we change seasons to think about your seasonal appointment. Embrace the change and give your well-being a boost! Check out my spring inspired newsletter as we ease our way into longer days and better weather. As always thank you for putting your trust in me with your health goals and concerns.

With gratitude, Brittany Smith

Embracing the Change of Spring

Embrace Seasonal Balance: In Traditional Chinese Medicine, Spring is associated with the wood element, representing growth and renewal. You can see this growth and renewal with the trees and plants as they start to grow buds and sprout from the ground. The wood element is controlled by the liver so that liver tends to be overactive in the Spring which can lead to additional stress, tension, and irritability. Acupuncture can help balance the liver’s energy so you move through the Spring stress-free. PS: I have great herbs for every day stress reduction too!

Detoxify and Energize: Since the Spring season enhances the energy in the liver and the function of the liver is to remove toxins and increase energy levels, use this time to detoxify and energize. Use acupuncture to support your body’s natural detoxifying process making you feel more vibrant and active as the days grow longer.

Allergy Relief: Spring often brings allergies to the forefront. Acupuncture can be effective in managing symptoms of seasonal allergies such as sneezing, runny nose, and itchy eyes by boosting the immune system and regulating the body’s response to allergens. I also have some great herbs for allergies in case you'd like to stay away from the over-the-counter medicine that may cause drowsiness and other symptoms. I personally prefer the effects of the herbs over the classic allergy medications.

Renew Focus on Wellness Goals: Spring is a great time to renew your commitment to health and wellness goals. Acupuncture can aid in emotional health, stress reduction and sleep quality. As a community, we have a tendency to start new health goals in January, but in February we fall off the bandwagon. Reconsider those goals that you set for yourself at the beginning of the year. How are you doing with those? I’d love to be able to help you achieve or maintain your health goals!

Tea of The Month - Allergy Relief

This herbal tea blend is designed to help soothe allergy symptoms and help support your immune system during allergy season. Each herb is chosen for its properties that can aid in reducing inflammation, calming allergic reactions, and supporting respiratory health. The tea blend will be available in my office, while supplies last.

Herbs Used

  • Nettle Leaf- this is a powerful herb known for its ability to relieve allergy symptoms, thanks to its anti-inflammatory properties. It can help reduce histamine, which is responsible for many allergy symptoms.

  • Peppermint Leaf- this contains menthol, which acts as a natural decongestant, helping to break down mucus. It also has anti-inflammatory and mild antihistamine effects, making it great for soothing sore throats and nasal congestions.

  • Licorice Root- this can help soothe irritation in the throat, reduce coughing and has anti-inflammatory properties. * Note - Avoid if you have high blood pressure or are pregnant.

  • Lemon Balm- this is known for its calming effects and can help alleviate symptoms of stress and anxiety that may be exacerbated by allergy symptoms. It also has antiviral properties.

  • Ginger Root- this is a potent anti-inflammatory and antioxidant that can help relieve symptoms of allergies, including nausea and sore throat.

  • Honey (optional) - this has antibacterial and soothing properties.

Add 1 ½- 2 teaspoons of the herbal mixture to a tea strainer or tea bag, set it into cup. Boil water and pour over the herbs. Let it steep for 5-10 minutes. The longer you steep, the stronger the tea will be. Add honey to sweeten if desired. Drink 102 cups daily during allergy season for best effects.
