Beat The Summer Heat

June 2024 Newsletter
I missed a few issues of my newsletter, as it was a busy spring for me! I was consumed with planning my wedding which was on June 1st. It was a spectacular weekend and well worth all the time that went into planning.
Last week we had our first heat wave of the summer and it was a tough one! We experienced some more high heats this week too and I’m sure there’s more to come! This heat can be challenging for some, but I’m here to help. Acupuncture can effectively support the body in managing and alleviating issues related to summer heat through several mechanisms. Check out my newsletter for more details and an awesome summer tea that you can make at home or buy in the office! As always thank you for putting your trust in me with your health goals and concerns.
PS: I will slowly be trickling my new last name into my practice so don’t be alarmed if you see “Moore” instead of “Smith”. Many people have asked if I was changing my name and yes I am!
With gratitude, Brittany Moore

Beat The Summer Heat
Balancing Internal Heat: Acupuncture can help regulate the body’s internal temperature, cooling excessive internal heat that may build up during hot summer days. Specific acupuncture points, such as those along the Large Intestine, Stomach, and Gall bladder meridians, are often targeted to disperse heat and promote cooling.
Enhancing Hydration: Acupuncture can improve the body’s fluid regulation, helping to maintain hydration. This is particularly important in the summer when dehydration is more common. Points related to the Spleen and Kidney meridian can be stimulate to support fluid balance.
Boosting Energy Levels: The heat can often lead to feelings of lethargy and fatigue. Acupuncture can help enhance overall energy levels by improving the flow of Qi (vital energy) throughout the body, making individuals feel more energized and less drained by the heat.
Reducing Heat-Related Symptoms: Symptoms like headaches, dizziness, and irritability can be alleviates through acupuncture. Points on the Heart and Liver meridians are frequently used to calm the mind and reduce irritability and stress associated with heat.
Supporting Digestive Health: Summer heat can affect digestion, leading to symptoms like bloating, nausea, constipation, and appetite changes. Acupuncture can help regulate the digestive system by targeting points on the Stomach, Spleen, and Large Intestine meridians, promoting better digestion and appetite control.
Addressing Skin Issues: Heat can exacerbate skin conditions like rashes and acne. Acupuncture can help improve skin health by promoting circulation and reducing inflammation, often focusing on points along the Lung and Large Intestine meridians which are linked to skin health.
Improving Sleep: Hot weather can interfere with sleep patterns. Acupuncture can help promote better sleep by calming the nervous system and balancing the body’s internal rhythms. Points like Shenmen and Anmian are commonly used to aid sleep.
Incorporating acupuncture into a holistic approach to managing summer heat, along with staying hydrated, wearing appropriate clothing, and avoiding excessive sun exposure, can provide comprehensive support for maintaining health and well-being during the summer months.
